Commodore of Niflheim's Third Army Corps' 87th Airborne Division. Born and raised in the western continent, she first proved her prowess in the field as a mercenary. She excelled in combat, putting her impressive athletic abilities and spatial awareness to good use. Yet Aranea was unsatisfied with her de facto superiority: she desired a greater challenge. She then turned her gaze to the skiesβand the rest is history. With her trusty magitek lance in hand, she leaps into the air, soaring to and fro with the aid of an inertia-controlling device built into her armor. This incredible midair mobility has earned her the moniker "the Dragoon," and she has become something of a legend across Eos. Aranea has long held doubts about the empire's devotion to its daemonic research. It is only when the imperial army's failed assault on Altissia leads to countless civilian casualties that she decides to officially cut her ties. Now, she has turned against her former employer, hunting down the daemons and magitek troopers they created while saving innocents from harm. VISUAL: A beautiful woman that can turn heads, compact but with noticeable strength visible through her clothing β warriors will know a fellow warrior when they see her. Silver hair and green eyes, and a sharp smirk or smile β depending on who you are. Because of her impeccable airborne lancework, she's got sinewy arms, legs and thighs that can crush a man's head. AURAL: Playful and seductive, casual in every since even in battle. She's straightforward and business-like, though with particular inflections in her tone that strays towards the sarcastic and wry. OLFACTORY: As human, nothing too noticeable beyond the usual scents of soap (if bathed) or sweat (if not). On the rare occasion she chooses to wear perfume, it's heady and powerful and almost overwhelming at first scent (just like her). As a monster, she transforms into a Peri, which carries the individual's favorite, tantalizing scent. DEMEANOR: A striking woman with confident strides and a very imposing demeanor, despite coming up shorter than most. Despite the easygoing smile and friendly disposition that she'll greet most people with, it's very obvious from the get-go that she's a woman on a mission, and she means business. FASHION: Leather jackets and high-heeled boots. In love with military fashion, so the decopunk of Sumarlok works for her. In love with reds, blacks, and the occasional whites. She'll bring on some other color if it suits her. |

- Β» Self-Determination. Aranea's most important quality is her belief that she alone is privy to the path she chooses to walk. Neither her past nor her future defines who she is β only her abilities, and the decisions she makes in the moment. It's a way of thinking that has served her well, starting from her mercenary days, all the way to her promotion as commodore of one of Niflheim's airborne units. This thought process especially gains significance when she begins to second guess her role in the empire's machinations, that she literally quit on the spot in front of one of her bosses. That's just who she is: once she sets her mind on to something, there is nothing that can stop her.
- Β» Aranea is a soldier with immense fighting experience and leadership capabilities, both qualities honed during her mercenary days and in the middle of a war between two nations. Not to mention that her world is overridden with uncontrollable daemons and a plague that's sucking their world into an endless night. Anything that spells danger won't be too much for her to deal with. While the magic of Noctium will be something bizarre to her, magic itself is nothing new, so after the initial bewilderment, she'll be able to handle anything thrown her way.
- Β» Mercenary: Aranea is one of the best fighters in the game, who has put her impressive athletic abilities and spatial awareness to good use in combat. Link-strikes: While she is often portrayed as a lone warrior whose skills are beyond other people's, she can be a team player that can instantly click with other warriors and employ 2-in-1 linked attacks with them as needed.

Disposition:
Β» Straightforward / Tactless. Aranea does not shy away from speaking up on issues she feels strongly about β she will, in fact, be very blunt about her agreement, and especially her displeasure. She'll say it to just about anyone that listens, regardless of whether or not they're her friends or enemies. That no-holds-barred attitude might seem off-putting to people that don't know her; however, it has made her the perfect person to essentially slap around the protagonists and give them advice that pulls no punches. She urges them to walk their path their own way β whether they want to hear it or not. She once told Noctis not to let anyone else tell him how to walk his path. She also scolded Prompto, when it seemed that he lost his will to live after discovering the secrets of his past. She encouraged him to look beyond what his past has offered and remember that there are people that care for him.
On the other hand, of course, her bluntness can be seen as callous, she tends to make tactless, deadpan commentary that seems unsympathetic to most. For example, telling Ignis "that sucks", after learning that he lost his eyesight. That straightforwardness also does not apply to just words; it's in her actions as well, as she's about as delicate as a slap to the face. In fact, she tends to hit people to get them out of danger, her non-verbal way of telling them to snap out of it.
Β» High-minded / Bleeding heart. Working for a morally dubious empire has always struck her wrong, regardless of what little choice she had at first - someone had to feed and pay her men, after all. But even in the face of the atrocities committed in the name of the empire, Aranea herself has stuck to her personal principles, and declines vehemently any decision that might send her spiraling down the rabbit hole of immoral decisions. Even before her eventual defection, she has been helping the main party in fighting against the empire.
After witnessing the casualties of the war from Lucis, to Altissia, to Tenebrae, and to her own home in Gralea β she realizes that whatever they're fighting for is not worth this much death and destruction. She's willing to go into the line of fire and fight her way through the hardest challenges so that others won't have to. As the world of Eos falls into a long, endless night, she has already made it her missions to help others, to keep them safe as daemons run amok in the night, cleaning up the remnants of large-scale battles, and work under search and rescue operations to ensure that those who couldn't help themselves always has someone to rely on.
Β» Easygoing. Despite the gravitas of her life and personal principles, Aranea herself isn't the kind to strut around with her back straight and chest puffed out. That's way too much grandstanding for her; she'd rather just be having a casual day out with her men, doing typical missions, having the time of her life stabbing daemons. She takes a casual approach to meeting people and doesn't change her attitude with every person, even someone of stature like Prince Noctis. She's willing to take in stride any eccentricities that come with being around him. She also grants cute nicknames, a show of familiarity to anyone that comes across her that she doesn't immediately hate.
Β» At arm's length. Super friendly, vibes with everyone β but she's not the type to spill her personal feelings out to strangers. She's not the type to call people friends β she'd say they're her allies instead. While she is good at taking care of others, she doesn't expect it in return β she'll get flustered if you start trying, and try to wave it off like it's nothing.
Suitability:
While Aranea is capable of giving others genuine words and affections, she can get flustered if it's returned, thus emotional connections that come her way might not solidify at first due to her own personal comfort level not being on part with the rest. She has always been the "work first, talk later" kind of person - and even when talking, she is seen giving advice and care to others more than she is the one being taken cared of.
In her canon, she barely gets the time to really cultivate and marinate in those types of personal connections, so it'll be a relatively new experience for her. That said, she is capable of letting her hair down, so to speak, and it's something that she'll have more time for, in Noctium.
Condition upon arrival: Physically just fine, but will be bewildered and a little irritated at being brought here. She'll get over it, though.
Abilities:
Β» Magitek weaponry: Hailing from Niflheim and subsequently earning a place in their army, she shows mastery of magitek weaponry that the empire is known for -- Stoss Spear is a weapon said to be forged especially for her and 'beyond the handling of all others'. It is also shown later in official artworks that she is capable of using other weapons at hand, even long range weapons that are far from her usual style.
Β» Dragoon: She excels in airborne fighting styles, unparalleled with her skills with her magitek weapon as she soars through the air and dives down to smash her enemies into the ground. Her signature skills are Highwind (in an outdoor battle, she jumps as far as she is able before dropping down and dealing massive damage to the unsuspecting enemy) and Dragoon Dive (in an indoor battle, she dives towards an enemy and shoves them to the nearest wall, before landing on her feet after a graceful sommersault), both using her airborne and lance abilities to its fullest.
